Lunch at the Airfield

This morning I took the kids out while Steph stayed home and did some much-needed spring cleaning.  We started the morning out for bagels at Einstein’s, then ran a few errands.  The highlight of the day was lunch at the Elevation Chophouse out at McCullum Airfield.  The sky was clear so there was plenty of traffic: lear jets, single-engine props, twin-engine props, helicopters, and even two bi-planes!   We had a great time, and Steph did a fantastic job cleaning our home.

On the way home Maya decided it was Hippy Time:

Maya the Altar Server

We missed the service on Sunday as we were out of town, so we attended the Wednesday evening service at St. Peter and St. Paul.  There was a crowd of about 12 attendees, of which we constituted 30% with our family.  During Eucharist, Mother Elisa asked if Maya would come up and hold the basin and towel while Mother Elisa washed her hands.  She did it, and she’s only 2½!

Thanks for that!

Most of my readers have already heard this, but I’ll relay the story here for posterity.  Earlier this week I was changing Devin’s diaper; we were preparing to go for an outing of some sort.  Out of the blue, Devin looks at me and says, “Thanks for my penis, Dad.”  The boy is 2½ years old.  I simply said, “You’re welcome,” and left it at that.  I’m afraid it starts earlier each generation…

Spring Movements

Spring hails the return of many migratory bird species around the home, and of course I’ll attempt to snap pictures when I can. The past few days have been pretty busy, but I did manage to catch a few pics of some infrequent visitors:

I’ve also heard a cacophony of birds out in the surrounding yards. One of the more prominent is the Eastern Towhee. I haven’t been able to get a decent picture yet; he rarely ventures to the front yard and tends to flit around the brambles in the backyard. But, I do hear the constant “drink-your-teeeee” call. It’s kinda nice.

Maya Is Unruly

This was Maya’s first gymnastics class. She (and we) were all very excited about this, however Maya joined an established class nearing its end, with her official class beginning in two weeks. Well, not being used to the routine (pun intended), Maya found herself very tempted by all the fun, bouncy equipment she was surrounded by. This clip shows Maya after walking the balance beam, when she is then supposed to practice back handsprings on the foam octagon, but she clearly has other priorities. Andy was watching from the observation booth and there were some other people in there talking about who knows what, so just ignore the talking (it is not a narrative)…

Snow day!

The snow started falling around 11:30am on Sunday while we were in church.  By the time we got out to the parking lot, after bagels and coffee, the snow was really coming down in big, wet clumps not unlike wads of cotton candy or cellulose insulation.  The drive home was interesting as the roads were wet, but not cold so the snow melted quickly and did not accumulate.  The twinkles were quite interested in the snow as one would expect, so when we pulled into the driveway we had to stop and catch some wads of snow on our tongues.  After we got inside, we talked about it.
